Moving your family, pets and possessions into a new home can be a stressful process.

Follow our tips to streamline the entire experience and make moving into your new home a joy.

  1. Pack the items you will need first into an accessible box.
  2. Wrap your breakables in clothing to save on bubble wrap.
  3. Create a folder for all your moving documents.
  4. Write down any pre-existing damage to any items prior to transport.
  5. Label all of your boxes clearly to ensure you don’t forget what’s in each box.
  6. Keep your tool box handy. You never know when you’ll need it.
  7. Pack per room. That way you can easily unpack all the ‘kitchen’ boxes in the kitchen and so on.
  8. Ask your local supermarket for their old boxes to save you buying them.
  9. Don’t forget about your plants.
  10. Do a big cull before moving. That way you can start fresh in your new home without those unnecessary items and you can save on moving costs.
  11. Clean the house you are moving from after your furniture has been collected.
  12. Clean your new home before you’ve moved your things in.
  13. Take a photo of how your electronics are connected so you can remember how and where all the wires go.
  14. Have a plan at hand for furniture placement in your new home.
  15. Wait until you’ve moved into your home to buy some of your new furniture. This way you’ll have a better idea of how everything will fit.
  16. Take all of your valuables with you when moving. Don’t leave them in the moving truck.
  17. Try to use the majority of food in your fridge and freezer before you move. This will save on wastage.
  18. Set aside bed linen and towels to be used on the first night so beds can be made up as soon as possible on moving day.
  19. Make sure your pets are secured and safe for the day as more than likely doors and gates will be left open.
  20. If you aren’t moving far take all the clothes hanging in your wardrobe, still on hangers and transport them directly into your new wardrobe. This will save you time.
