Get Your Home Ready for Spring
Spring is almost here, and with it brings a burst of blooms, warmer weather, and a new to-do list of jobs around the home. After all, they don’t call it “spring cleaning” for nothing. Granted, while you can - and should - maintain your home all year round, there’s something about the beginning of spring that inspires us to clean our homes from top to bottom.
We’ve got some simple tips on how to get your home ready for spring. Tackle those areas you neglected during the rest of the year with our top home maintenance tips below. Work your way through this list and your home will be ready in no time!

Maintenance tips for inside your home
Dust shelves and blinds
Clear away all the dust that has accumulated over your surfaces during winter. This is a great time to dust your shelves, blinds, as well as lighting fixtures and ceiling fans.
Test your smoke alarm
It’s cheap, only takes a few minutes to complete, and can save lives: change your batteries on your smoke alarm, and then test your smoke alarm to ensure it’s in full working condition.
Check your dryer vent
Debris such as lint trapped in your dryer vent can be a fire hazard. Clean it by disconnecting it from the machine and using a dryer vent brush to sweep away lint.
Sanitise remotes and other tech equipment
Grab some Dettol or alcohol wipes and quickly wipe your television remotes, computer keyboards and even mobile phones.
Wash all bed linen, towels and blankets
Give your bed linen, towels and blankets a good clean, especially considering they’ve been heavily used over the winter months. After washing, allow them to dry completely before use.

Maintenance tips for outside your home
Clean outdoor furniture
With warm weather approaching, you’ll be spending more time entertaining your guests outdoors. Give your outdoor furniture a brush down or hose down, being careful to follow the care instructions on your fabrics.
This is also a great time to oil your deck to add a new layer of protection to the wood, as well as clean your paved areas with a high pressure hose.
Prep your soil
Your plants and seeds won’t grow without good soil. Prepare your soil by raking the soil clean, levelling it, and adding organic matter like compost or animal manure to encourage growth during the spring wet weather.
Clean your barbeque grill
If you haven’t used your grill during winter or autumn, it may have collected dust. Depending on whether you have a charcoal or gas grill, give it a good scrub. Check for rust and replace parts if necessary so it’s ready to be used as soon as the warmer weather approaches.
Check and clean out your gutters
Outside your home, remove leaves and other debris that have fallen and blocked the gutters. If you can safely access your guttering, clean out leaves and branches and check them for rust or leakages that may have appeared over winter.
Wash your windows from the outside
Over the previous seasons, dust and grime can accumulate on your windows due to the weather conditions in summer and autumn. Spring is the perfect time to get outside with some soapy water and wash them down to make them look as good as new. You can do it yourself or you can hire a window cleaning service to clean your windows. If you own a two-storey home, be sure to take care when washing from a height.
