How to create beautifully arranged rooms

Arranging the furniture isn’t always your first thought when you’re moving into your new home. With the stresses and tasks associated when moving in, it can be tiring to even think about furniture placement. The main concern is normally just getting the furniture in the house and sorting it out later. With this in mind, here are some great tips on how to create beautifully arranged rooms for when you have settled into your new home.

Measure the room

Try measuring the dimensions of the room before you put in anything additional. If you don’t, you won’t know what will and won’t fit within the space. Create a printed template of your room with grids and figure out how you can place your current furniture. If the room isn’t the same size as your previous one, you may need to sell your furniture and buy something that fits. Having a template and working from that first will save you from constantly moving around your furniture.

The main feature

This is important in every room within your home. Decide what piece of furniture or element will be the main feature of the room or what you want to emphasise on. Perhaps you will choose the large wall-mounted TV screen, the window with a view or even a styled feature wall. The idea is to style and move the furniture according to where you want the room to focus.

Room flow

Think about how you want the room to work. You don’t want people to squeeze past you whilst you’re sitting on the couch. Perhaps you want to be able to look straight across to people sitting on the opposite couch to create an easy flow of communication. You can decide on the best layout of your room by thinking of the main feature of the room and working around it.

To prevent tripping hazards, it’s important to make sure that electrical cords or small objects are neatly stored away or hidden. Create your rooms to be functional, this can include choosing furniture with multiple functions.

Arranging your belongings

Decide what does and doesn’t need to be displayed and what can go in the cupboard. It’s a good idea to think about what is worth keeping out, not everything you own needs to be on display. Picture frames are a nice touch to the home and can be placed on shelves and side tables. Look at putting objects around the home that are different sizes. If you have young children, to prevent potential choking hazards,  it’s best to keep those small items hidden and out of reach.

Think about breaking down your rooms into areas where you complete different tasks. This can better help you to decide what furniture or belongings would suit each particular space.
