Your new home has been built and it’s now time to focus on landscaping your property. Remember, what surrounds your home should be just as important as what is in it.

A well-landscaped front and backyard can add immense value to your property when it comes time to sell. It can also add colour, texture and fragrance as well as compliment the design of your new home.

When you’re in the process of landscaping be sure to consider your lifestyle and family requirements.

For example, if you’re a keen cook consider planting a vegetable garden. If you love being outdoors and in the garden consider putting a stone or timber seat or even a birdbath in your garden. And if you have young children you might consider putting in a playground, sandbox or even leaving a large grass area vacant for them to play on.

As they say, first impressions are important. Your front yard is the first thing you and other people will see when arriving at your home. Therefore, it’s important for it to be a well thought out space.

Some ways to spruce up this space could include garden ornaments, a stone pathway, a stone or wooden letterbox or garden hedging.

While some people will build fences for privacy reasons, others will put a fence around their property for aesthetic purposes only. Some fencing options include brush fencing, picket fencing, aluminium fencing, timber slat fencing, brick fencing or glass fencing.

Your backyard is the perfect place to enjoy fun activities with your family. For example, if your family loves playing sport you could build a basketball or tennis court on your property.

Choosing the right plants for your garden will ultimately determine the look and feel of your outdoor space. If you don’t have a lot of time to put towards your garden be sure to choose plants that don’t require a lot of care. Succulents are a good example of this. They require only indirect sunlight and they store water, meaning you won’t have to water them everyday. They are also ideal plants to keep indoors.

Using your garden for relaxation purposes is the easiest way to enjoy your outdoor space. Relax in your backyard with a day bed or hammock hung between the trees.

Alternatively, set up a fire pit in your backyard where you can toast marshmallows on a nice night with friends.
