A First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) of $10,000 is available when you buy or build your first new home. The grant only applies for newly built and substantially renovated homes, and is not available for established homes.
If you buy a newly built house, townhouse, apartment, unit or similar, or a home that has been substantially renovated by the seller, the total value of the property must not exceed $600,000.
If you purchase vacant land and sign a building contract with a builder, the total combined cost must not exceed $750,000. The total combined cost is the value of the vacant land plus the value of the comprehensive home building contract plus the cost of any building variations.
To qualify for the First Home Owner Grant, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
You may still be eligible if you purchased a residential property after 1 July 2000 and didn’t live in it for more than six continuous months.
